Line Filter
A pressure line filter is installed in-line to maintain the oil purity level in the hydraulic piping and protect hydraulic equipment from contaminants.
Filters are designed to protect sensitive system components, they are usually installed downstream from the hydraulic pump on the pressure line but before any control valves which protect directly one of more components.
Pressure line filtration: Locating filter in the pressure line provides maximum protection for components located immediately downstream.
Return filtration: The purpose for locating filter in the return is to help if the reservoir and the fluid it contains start out clean, and all air entering the reservoir and returning fluid is adequately filtered, then fluid cleanliness will be maintained. The other advantage of the return line filter as a filter location is that sufficient pressure is available to force fluid through fine media (typically 10 microns), but pressure is not high enough to complicate filter or housing design.

The element inside the filter is constructed from notch wire that is made from tightly-coiled stainless steel wire. The element filters via the gaps between the stainless steel wires. The wire is also manufactured in-house and also achieves a higher filtration than wire mesh. Notch wire elements can be washed and reused in the same manner as wire mesh elements. The element also has a flat surface that makes cleaning easy.
